Testing 1, 2, 3...

So, I have always been a "blog-follower", but never considered starting one. While we don't have new babies to announce, a wedding to plan or a particular subject of interest to discuss, life in our world continues to be full of surprises. A brief update for those of you who need to catch up:

Our last year in Davis is upon us. While years ago it seemed inevitable that we would move on from our college town, the pending departure is full of mixed emotions. Robert has been accepted to a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical program at Scripps college in southern California. A what??? Basically it's a program that preps you for medical school by condensing all of the science pre-reqs needed into one year. Those of you who are currently pre-med are probably thinking this sounds nuts. It is. However, Scripps has had a 100% acceptance rate into medical school over the past 5 years, and a 97% rate overall. Not that the program guarantees you an entrance, but it is highly selective and we were thrilled when Robert received his acceptance! He was actually admitted for this fall, but decided to defer in order to enjoy a year of academic freedom before jumping into another long bout of school.

While Robert enjoys his year of freedom, I am pursuing my teaching credential. All of my classes are online, which make it possible to continue to work. I'll finish classes in December and begin my student teaching in Claremont next fall. This will give us a few months together where we are both out of school!

On top of our other full time jobs, we have taken a position as resident managers at a local apartment complex here in Davis and are really enjoying it so far! We jumped right in two weeks before the turnovers (move ins/move outs) - so, needless to say, our introduction to the job was quite overwhelming. However now that all the tenants (including us!) are moved in, things have slowed down quite a bit. We are learning tons - including how to work together as a team. Biggest lesson so far: always charge the lawnmower and put oil in it before using ;-)
